La 95e cérémonie des Oscars, animée par Jimmy Kimmel, aura lieu au Dolby Theatre à Los Angeles, le 12 mars.

Rihanna chantera à la cérémonie des Oscars qui se tiendra le mois prochain, ont annoncé jeudi 23 février les organisateurs, quelques semaines après son retour remarqué sur scène. La star de la pop née à La Barbade interprétera son titre Lift Me Up, qui mène la course à la statuette de la meilleure chanson originale, tirée du film de super-héros Black Panther: Wakanda Forever lors de la cérémonie à Hollywood. Sont aussi nommés dans cette catégorie Hold My Hand interprété par Lady Gaga dans Top Gun: Maverick et la chanson Naatu Naatu du compositeur M.M. Keeravani pour le film RRR.

Un grand retour sur scène, mais pas d’album 

Avant son spectacle à la mi-temps du Super Bowl plus tôt ce mois-ci, Rihanna n’avait pas remis les pieds sur scène depuis sept ans. Agée de 35 ans, l’artiste s’est plutôt concentrée sur ses marques de maquillage, lingerie et mode qui ont contribué à la faire devenir milliardaire.

Elle a également donné naissance à son premier enfant en mai 2022. Son ventre arrondi avait enflammé les réseaux sociaux et était sur toutes les lèvres lors du Super Bowl, des représentants de l’artiste ayant confirmé la deuxième grossesse de la chanteuse après le spectacle.

Les fans qui espéraient avoir des extraits du nouvel album dont elle parle depuis des années, lors de sa prestation au Super Bowl, ont été déçus. Lift Me Up est la première nomination aux Oscars de Rihanna, déjà été récompensée neuf fois aux Grammy Awards.

Hours after the singer’s tweet, teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg and the US vice president’s niece Meena Harris also tweeted support for the farmers.

Their widely shared tweets went viral, garnering thousands of responses.

Farmers have been protesting at Delhi’s borders against new farm laws.

In a statement on Wednesday, India’s external affairs ministry said parliament had passed « reformist legislation relating to the agricultural sector » after a full debate and discussion.

« The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible, » it added.

Rihanna’s tweet on Tuesday linked to a news story about the internet blockade at the protest sites.

India suspended mobile internet services in three areas around the capital, Delhi, where tens of thousands of farmers are camping to protest against the new laws.

The government said the shutdown was to « maintain public safety ».

The protest made international headlines last week when a tractor rally by farmers ended in violent clashes that left one protester dead and dozens of policemen injured.

Some demonstrators stormed Delhi’s historic Red Fort and occupied it until police pushed them back.

Farmers’ groups and union leaders condemned the violence but said they would not call off the protest.

The pop superstar’s tweet to her 101 million followers sent her name to the top of social media trends in India. Her post drew a global outpouring of support.
